About

This Blog accompanies an ongoing series of artworks – Temporary Autonomous Zone, the first of these took place as part of the Market Estate Project, London, during January and February 2010.  The works revolve around the use of flags to designate buildings as temporary autonomous zones; spaces outside the usual socio-economic political structure (cf. Hakim Bey and the post on 16th Jan 2010).

This symbolism is basically a pointless gesture – despite this re-signification the buildings will continue with business as usual.  Highlighting the inertia of pre-existing forms within society and the temptation, especially within art, to try and replace these using superficial intellectual means.

Subsequent activities included a declaration at the IT department of a London university and a film documenting a Temporary Autonomous Zone at St Paul’s church in Covent Garden in October 2011.
